The Lake is deep and shorter in length and covered with snow during winters. It is one of the prominent lakes in Himachal besides Chandra Tal and Prashar Lake. When the reflection of the empyrean falls obliquely on the lake, the color is an eye-catcher and the cynosure of all eyes. In Suraj Tal, we can track a lot of shepherds in the surrounding environment. The weather and temperature remain very cold in the region. The difference between Chandra Tal Lake and Suraj Tal Lake lies in its appearance, width, and area. The road distance from Keylong to Suraj Tal is minimal and requires a few hours of driving.

Tourists can reach Suraj Tal from Rohtang Pass

Tourists and adventurers can reach Suraj Tal from Manali via Rohtang Pass and Baralacha La Pass through road transport and availing reserved private vehicles. The magnitude of the lake is of the high decree and trekkers and travelers come from different corners of the world to explore its virtue and camp at Sarchu. The lake does not look that much big, but it is quite deep and one of the high-altitude lakes in the Northern Himalayas. It looks symbolically good and the best time to get the view of the lake would be in the winter months. The lake becomes frozen and the mountains enslaving them looks ravishing and enchanting. There are a lot of foreign tourists who actually sets up their own camping tents and go for bicycle rides in the area by staying a week in the hilly arcades. Temperature dips down drastically at night so it would be wise and advisable to carry sleeping bags to protect oneself from the cold bitterness of the region.

Suraj Tal, therefore, remains a big adventure and treasure hunt for backpackers like us to camp at night and spend the day taking high-quality photos of the region and the surrounding environment for retrospection. The placid lake is the gateway to Himachal Pradesh and is on the route from Leh to Himachal. The water body is inscribed in a small frontier with mountains of The Himalayas enclaving it all around. The water level is not that deep, but it is advisable not to get inside for one’s own safety and precaution. There is also no provision of stay around the lake as there are no tents. Therefore, it is advisable to carry trekking gears including sleeping tents if one wants to plan a trip.
